The Sims 4 Ghosts Have Fewer Motives

I was watching a simtube video and realized suddenly that ghosts have to eat and sleep in order to- what? Survive? Seemed inappropriate, so I made a quick mod to remove the unnecessary burdens of mortal flesh from your sims that lack… uh, mortal flesh. They will only have fun and social motives, neither of which they’ll die without.

Your ghosts will still be able to eat, sleep, or shower if they’d like (and may get whims or buffs from doing so), but it isn’t necessary.

Oh, and if they somehow become less dead – Lyla had a lovely serving of ambrosia – they should be fully restored with all motives as expected.

Compatibility Notes
Inspiration partially from that I assume did something similar, but hasn’t updated it in a few years. The list of XML files in the post did at least help get me on the right track. I ended up implementing it in a hopefully less conflict-prone way. This file only overrides the buff_trait_isGhost XML, so keep that in mind if you have other supernatural mods.

Note: this has the potential to touch many aspects of ghost gameplay, so it’s possible there are bugs/side-effects I haven’t seen in my testing. If you find issues, drop a comment and I’ll look into it.

  • Custom Content This is the addition of player-made clothing or objects to the game. Sometimes just referred to in The Sims community as “CC”.
  • Game Mods: These are Mods that add features or change functionality of the game. These Mods may include script code, but not always.
  • Mods: A blanket term referring to any player-made content for the game—this includes both Custom Content and Game Mods.
  • Enable Mods via the options panel : The setting can be found in “Options > Other > Enable Custom Content and Mods.” and Restart the game
